All communities that wish to be considered for Raising Places submit a Letter of Intent (LOI).

Site Visits

Selected applicants invited to host a site visit with members of the Raising Places review committee.

Due diligence conducted with finalist communities.

Communities Announced

September 2017

Greater Good Studio begins facilitating lab sessions with local teams on a rolling schedule, approximately one community per week.

Kickoff Labs

September—October 2017

Local teams deepen relationships, frame topics and form small groups to plan community research on local challenges.

Research Sprint

September—November 2017

Local teams each spend 6 weeks conducting primary research, including ethnographic observations and interviews, with a wide variety of local residents and stakeholders (including youth).

Ideas Labs

October—November 2017

Local teams gather findings from their small groups, and prioritize ideas and opportunities for more exploration through prototyping in the community.

Prototyping Sprint

October 2017—February 2018

Local teams each spend 12 weeks creating, gathering feedback, field testing and refining prototypes of their ideas.

Action Labs

January—February 2018

Local teams incorporate what they learn and define actionable solutions. Each team hosts community events to share progress and build support for advancing solutions.

Implementation Planning

March—May 2018

Local teams conduct feasibility research and document a clear plan for implementing their projects. They engage partners and identify potential funding sources for continuing the work.

National Convening

April 2018

Community teams join together with national leaders in philanthropy, programming, policy and research to explore partnerships that can sustain the momentum in Raising Places communities.
